Although still a young company, Smart Dolphins
has come a long way since Dave Monahan started
the company in May of 2000 in a back room of his
house. We have many memories of building computers
on kitchen tables, holding staff meetings in odd
places and very high cell phone bills. As we continued
to grow, the benefits of being a virtual company
were outweighed by those of a central office.
Technology can only take a virtual office so far
and building a solid business infrastructure and
a strong team environment required us to come
together in an office. We moved into our first
office in February of 2002 in Vic West.
The Smart Dolphins story is notable considering
the first few years of the company were challenging
economic times. There have been several bumps
in the road, but our dexterity and perseverance
has navigated us safely to success. Most companies
were hit hard by the general economic conditions
of these times, but Smart Dolphins adjusted and
continued to find opportunity.
In September 2002, Smart Dolphins was incorporated
and Darren Jarvie partnered with Dave Monahan.
It was a natural marriage for the two entrepreneurs.
Dave has great vision and leadership abilities
which are a perfect match for Darren’s twenty
years of business operations and customer service
experience.
More recently, in December 2003, our growth had
prompted us to again move on to better facilities
and file another change of address to #5-515
Dupplin Road. The move more than tripled our
space and gave us much needed room for our anticipated
growth.
And grow we did, as the first 6 months of 2004
brought almost a doubling of our staff and a period
of intensive demand from new and existing clients.
During this period, we weren’t concerned
with how to generate more business, but how to
best manage the biggest wave of growth in the
company’s short history. We managed very
well and have now established a business foundation
that will allow us to swim the small business
technology oceans for the conceivable future.
